Hull v Aston Villa tips: Villans to tame Tigers?

Published:
Steve Bruce Aston Villa manager

After watching everyone else kick-off their Championship campaigns over the weekend, Hull City and Aston Villa join the party tonight.

It’s been a tough summer for Hull so far. Many of last season’s regulars have moved on and not yet been replaced.

There’s been plenty of change at Villa off the pitch, but Steve Bruce remains in place. They’ve held on to the likes of Jack Grealish, James Chester and Jonathan Kodjia so far too.

Match Odds

Villa have won 10 of the last 14 games between these two sides. Hull have only won once during that period.

Our traders unsurprisingly have the Birmingham club down as 6/4 favourites. The hosts are 15/8, with the draw going for 21/10.

Nigel Adkins is set to name an unfamiliar side here. They may not have gelled just yet. Villa to Win to Nil is 16/5.

Talking Tactics

With so many of last season’s backline having moved on, Hull are likely to revert to a back four.

George Long is set to make his debut in goal, as are centre-backs Jordy de Wijs and Reece Burke. But the biggest problem could be a lack of firepower going forwards.

Villa will be looking to Grealish to dictate the play. He’ll play in the hole behind Kodjia and Andre Green

The playmaker could make the difference here. He’s got the talent to light up the division if Villa keep hold of him.

Goalscorer Odds

Kodjia is 9/5 favourite to get a goal in this one. His strike partner Green is 11/5. They’re also 9/2 and 6/1 respectively to open the scoring.

Grealish is 23/10 to open his account for the season too.

Hull forwards Fraizer Campbell and Nouha Dicko are both 12/5 to hit the back of the net.
