Reading v Derby tips: Can Lampard kick-off reign with a win?

Frank Lampard

The Football League makes a welcome return tonight as Reading take on Derby County in the Championship.

Tonight’s game will see former Chelsea and England hero Frank Lampard make his managerial debut with the Rams. He starts up against his former Stamford Bridge coach, Paul Clement.

Match odds

Reading may be hosts tonight, but the Royals only just avoided relegation last season, and are 5/2 outsiders this evening.

Derby, with three top-six finishes since 2014, are 23/20 favourites to give Lampard a winning start. The draw is 11/5.

Goalscorer odds

Plenty of eyes will be on Matej Vydra tonight. The Rams’ top scorer last season had been on his way to Leeds United in an £11m deal before talks collapsed over personal terms.

Leeds have since signed Patrick Bamford, and Lampard has stated Vydra will be back in the Derby fold.

The Czech striker is 9/2 favourite to bag the opener this evening, ahead of David Nugent at 5/1. Royals fans will look to summer signings Mark McNulty (11/2) and Sam Baldock (6/1) to score first.

Correct score odds

This should be a lively one. It’s the start of the season and both teams will be eager to impress their new managers.

Derby have arguably the better squad, however, and they’ve been far more impressive in pre-season. Reading didn’t win any of their six friendlies.

There’s 6/1 about Lampard’s men winning 1-0, with 9/1 for a 2-0 away success.
