Chelsea v Man United Tips: Hazard to spoil Mourinho’s return?

Published:
Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho returns to his old stomping ground this afternoon, looking to become the first Manchester United manager to win at Chelsea since Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Red Devils produced a stunning comeback to see off Newcastle United last time out. They’ll need to step things up once again to go toe-to-toe with Maurizio Sarri’s unbeaten Blues.

Match odds

Our traders haven’t been fooled by United’s victory over the Magpies. Mourinho’s men are out at 15/4 to win the match.

Their task is made tougher by Chelsea’s record under Sarri. The Blues are unbeaten at Stamford Bridge under the Italian, winning four matches.

They’re 7/10 to improve on that run at lunchtime, with a fourth 1-0 win in a row at home to United priced at 13/2.

You can back the draw at 11/4.

Talking tactics

Everyone knows how Mourinho likes to set up for these big matches. That approach is unlikely to change at the Bridge.

Marouane Fellaini is usually thrust into these types of contests from the bench. He could get a start alongside Paul Pogba and Fred in a robust midfield three.

They’ll need to be at their best to counter Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho and N’Golo Kante, who’ll typically aim to dominate the ball and feed Eden Hazard.

The Belgian ace ran rings around United in the FA Cup Final last season. He and Willian will look to expose the visitors’ soft underbelly and marauding full-backs.

Goalscorer odds

Hazard is the obvious focus of the goalscorer market. He’s struck 10 times in 14 appearances so far and is 13/10 Anytime or 4/1 to Score First.

Alvaro Morata follows close behind, alongside Olivier Giroud at 11/8 apiece. Pedro’s pace could also cause problems. He’s 2/1 Anytime.

The visitor’s main threat is Romelu Lukaku. However, he’ll need to improve on a dour record against his former club.

His strike in United’s 2-1 home win over Chelsea last season was his first in eight Premier League matches against the Blues. He’s 12/5 Anytime.

In-form England man Marcus Rashford has been in good nick for his country this term. We go 14/5 about him bringing that across for his club with a goal.
