Bookies fearing huge payout if Lions win final Test

A British and Irish Lions win in their final Test against New Zealand in the morning will result in a massive payout for the bookies.

We’re still licking our wounds from last Saturday’s clash, which cost us well in excess of half a million pounds.

And based on current momentum in the market, the liability on this weekend’s decider together with the money running on the Lions to win the whole series, could leave us around £2m out of pocket.

The All Blacks are currently the 1/4 favourites to win the decider this weekend, but a Lions victory at 7/2 has been the most popular bet on the game so far.

While most of the money has come from average-staking punters, the firm has laid a number of €25,000 wagers on Warren Gatland’s side.

Hayley O’Connor of Ladbrokes said: “This has possibly been our busiest Lions Tour yet and the results have been fairly brutal so far.

“We’re hoping the dry weather will see our book balance out a bit, as that would be good news for the All Blacks, but so far it is completely one-sided that Gatland’s underdogs will outplay their odds again.”

Sean O’Brien has been widely applauded for his performances and he is 7/1 to score a try in the final test. Jordie Barrett makes his début for the All Blacks and the youngster is 2/1 to score a try in the game.
