Chelsea v Southampton betting tips and odds

Premier League leaders Chelsea are in Carabao Cup fourth-round action against Southampton on Tuesday night having cemented their place at the top of the table with a 7-0 drubbing of Norwich over the weekend.

The Blues, 4/1 to win the League Cup, remain without Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner, but are 4/9 favourites to beat Saints just as they did 24 days ago in the Premier League.

We have also covered Tuesday’s clash between Arsenal and Leeds, but let’s look at some of the markets in our Chelsea v Southampton betting tips.

Match Odds

Fears the Blues would struggle without their two main strikers were allayed at the weekend when they smashed the Canaries at Stamford Bridge.

Lukaku probably wouldn’t have played in Tuesday’s game, but Werner started the third-round tie against Aston Villa and was in with a chance of making the team to face Southampton.

Both managers are expected to make big changes, but Thomas Tuchel did not have a striker on the bench at the weekend so Kai Havertz may lead the line once again, with Callum Hudson-Odoi in support.

The Blues beat Southampton 3-1 at the start of the month and are 23/10 to win and concede again or 6/5 for a victory by at least two goals.

However, the west Londoners’ victory against Saints turned on the second-half dismissal of captain James Ward-Prowse when the scores were tied at 1-1, so we go 16/5 on a draw or 9/2 on goals at both ends and the match to go straight to penalties.

Had Saints’ key midfielder stayed on the bench, they were in line for a third successive draw against the Blues and the second by a 1-1 scoreline which can be backed at 13/2 in our Chelsea v Southampton betting tips.

Talking Tactics

Ralph Hasenhuttl played a much stronger side for the 8-0 win at Newport in round two than he did for the 2-2 draw with Sheffield United, and another fringe squad could take to the field at Stamford Bridge.

Adam Armstrong and Che Adams may start up front, with Scotland midfielder Stuart Armstong in the heart of midfield, while Fraser Forster is expected to replace Alex McCarthy in goal, but Moi Elyounoussi is out as he requires a minor hand operation.

Albania striker Armando Broja is unavailable to face his parent club.

Hakim Ziyech, Ross Barkley, Saul Niguez, Malang Sarr, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Kepa are all in the frame to start Tuesday’s game for Chelsea.

Goalscorer Odds

Mason Mount scored a hat-trick against Norwich, his first goals of the season, and is 4/1 to break the deadlock as he did on Saturday or 8/5 to find the net, although it may be worth checking the starting line-ups an hour before kick-off.

Ziyech is 5/1 and 15/8 in the two markets and Hudson-Odoi is 6/1 and 12/5 in our Chelsea v Southampton betting tips.

Chelsea defenders have been among the goals this season, so Marcos Alonso, Malang Sarr and Andreas Christensen are 4/1, 10/1 and 14/1 respectively to score.

Adam Armstrong and Adams are both 9/1 to draw first blood, but the former is the favourite as an any-time goalscorer at 10/3, with the latter 7/2. Stuart Armstrong is 7/1 to find the net at any time.
