World Matchplay Day 3 Betting Tips: Price and Chizzy in action tonight

It’s Day 3 at the World Matchplay, and ten more players are looking to avoid the same fate as 2019 champion Rob Cross, who was dumped out at the first round stage by Gabriel Clemens last night.
Tonight’s dartists include tournament third-favourite Gerwyn Price and two-time world champion Adrian Lewis, who faces veteran Steve Beaton competing in his 21st Matchplay at the end of the night.
It promises to be another explosive evening on the oche, and it’s one we’ve previewed in our World Matchplay Betting Tips.
Dave Chisnall (3/10) v (5/2) Vincent van der Voort, 18:15
Blink and you’ll miss this evening’s opener as Dave Chisnall takes on Vincent van der Voort in a mouth-watering match-up which could leave the treble bed begging for mercy.
Both of these players are famed for their quickfire 180 hitting, and with Chizzy hitting 136 maximums on TV in the last 12 months, we’re going 17/20 for him to land Over 5.5 maximums here.
The St Helens-thrower has beaten Van Der Voort in six of their last seven meetings, including at the world championships in 2019 where he ran out a comfortable 3-1 winner.
He’s the odds-on favourite here as a result, and with his Dutch opponent falling at the first hurdle in his five appearances at the Matchplay, Chisnall could also be worth a look at 3/4 on the -2.5 Leg Handicap too.
Ian White (1/2) v (8/5) Joe Cullen, 19:15
Ask most competitors on the circuit which player they think has the most talent without having won a major tournament, and a common response would probably be Ian White.
Diamond is a ten-time Players Championship winner but has been unable to translate that form onto the big stage, where a sole semi-final appearance is all he has to show for his efforts.
A televised tournament behind closed-doors offers White the potential to replicate that tour form in a major without the all the usual trappings and fanfare.
White has progressed in seven of his eight first round ties at the Matchplay and is a much more consistent player than Cullen, who has fallen at the first hurdle on five occasions. Diamond is 1/2 to progress.
Daryl Gurney (4/11) v (21/10) Ricky Evans, 20:15
Two of the sport’s more colourful characters go head-to-head in the third match of the night as Daryl Gurney takes on Ricky Evans in the first round for the second year running.
Superchin won out 10-7 in Blackpool 12 months ago despite some wayward finishing, and our traders are expecting a similar outcome this evening with Gurney available at 4/11.
The Ulsterman is a two-time semi-finalist at the Matchplay and has hit Over 5.5 maximums in two of his last three appearances in the first round. He’s 9/5 to oblige again here.
Gerwyn Price (2/7) v (27/10) Danny Noppert, 21:15
The Matchplay hasn’t always been a happy hunting ground for Gerwyn Price, and the Iceman will be wary of his poor recent record in one of the PDC’s flagship tournaments.
Price hasn’t gone beyond the first round in Blackpool since 2016, but with a change of location and no crowd to contend with, the Welshman should have what it takes to prevail at 2/7.
The 35-year-old was in good nick before the break, reaching the semi-finals of the World Championship, the quarter-final of the Players Championship and the final of the Ladbrokes UK Open.
He beat tonight’s opponent Danny Noppert 10-3 en route to the latter of those, hitting an impressive 73% of his doubles. We go 21/20 about the Iceman to prevail on with a -3.5 Leg Handicap tonight.
Adrian Lewis (8/13) v (13/10) Steve Beaton, 22:15
The last time Steve Beaton failed to appear at the Matchplay, Leeds United finished 3rd in the Premier League. That was way back in 2000, and like the Whites this weekend, the Adonis could recapture old glories tonight.
He’s the 13/10 outsider against two-time world champion Adrian Lewis, but Jackpot hasn’t been at the top of his game for some time and may struggle if Beaton can reproduce his world championship form.
The veteran reached the last-16 at the Alexandra Palace seven months ago and remains a dangerous player, reaching two quarter-finals in the PDC Tour already this year.
We’re expecting a ding-dong encounter to end the night, and if both men play to the best of their ability, we could be in for a long one. Over 18.5 Legs is 19/5 with Beaton to win 11-9 or greater at 9/1.
