Leeds United set to prise cult England hero from Stoke at 11th Hour

It’s been a productive summer for new Leeds United gaffer Garry Monk, with the likes of Robert Green, Kemar Roofe, and nifty Swede Marcus Antonsson all rocking up at Elland Road, but the biggest name of all could be arriving in the next two hours – Peter Crouch.

The loveable beanpole is just 7/4 to switch Stoke City for West Yorkshire, with his first team opportunities limited to just 18 games last season – and with the 35-year-old looking to cement regular football again, Leeds could be the answer.

And there’s no doubt the veteran striker can still get himself among the goals, with an EFL Cup hat-trick at Stevenage last week – and there’s no question the Macclesfield maestro is adept at holding the ball up and intelligently bringing others into play.

With Transfermarkt.co.uk valuing the former England striker at £1.28m, he’d be well within Monk’s price range, while Stoke would likely be happy to trouser a modest sum for the former England forward, who has a single year left on his contract.

Leeds are next in action against Huddersfield, with the Whites enticingly priced at 6/4 for a fifth win in six meetings with the Terriers.

If they can snap up a striker with World Cup experience, that could give the Elland Road outfit the edge against their local rivals.
