Denmark v Finland betting tips: Home advantage for Danes

| 01.06.2021

Denmark take on Finland in their Group B opener on Saturday as Copenhagen hosts its first game at the coronavirus-delayed 2020 European Championship.

Denmark, who won the tournament in 1992, will have home advantage in all three of their group games against Finland, Belgium and Russia – and are 2/1 to win their pool.

The two teams face each other for the first time in nearly 10 years as we look at the markets in our Denmark v Finland betting tips.

Match Odds

Finland will be competing in their first ever major championship after winning six of their 10 qualifying matches to finish second behind Italy in Group J.

Finland are classed as rank outsiders at Euro 2020 – priced at 250/1 to win the tournament – and they are valued at 28/1 to be Group B winners and 12/5 just to qualify, where third place could guarantee a place in the last 16.

This leaves Suomi as 8/1 underdogs against the Danes, with the draw priced at 29/10.

Teemu Pukki Finland

Denmark have players at some of Europe’s biggest clubs with Christian Eriksen winning Serie A at Inter Milan, Thomas Delaney at Borussia Dortmund and Martin Braithwaite at Barcelona.

Denmark are 4/9 favourites to come away with an opening victory and Kasper Hjulmand’s side have been in fine recent form which has included four wins in five during which they scored 17 goals and kept four clean sheets.

Since last October, Denmark have tasted victory in nine of their 11 matches and have won without conceding in eight of those – which is priced at 10/11 to happen once again.

The Danes have kept eight clean sheets in that period and are 4/7 to open their European Championship campaign with another solid defensive performance.

Talking Tactics

Denmark have been flexible in their formations under boss Hjulmand but have mainly played a 4-2-3-1 shape with Delaney and Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg sitting in midfield and Eriksen in the number 10 role.

This will give the Inter man more space in the final third to create opportunities for the likes of Braithwaite, Kasper Dolberg and Yussuf Poulsen or for himself.

Simon Kjaer will captain the world’s 10th-ranked team alongside Chelsea’s Andreas Christensen in defence, with Kasper Schmeichel in goal for a strong Denmark outfit.

Pukki had been struggling with ankle ligament damage but should be fit having played the last 30 minutes in Finland’s 1-0 final friendly defeat by Estonia, but they do have some handy operators in their squad in Rangers’ Glen Kamara, Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky and young Brentford striker Marcus Forss.

Goalscorer Odds

Denmark have plenty of firepower in their ranks with midfielder Eriksen leading the scoring charts with five goals during Euro 2020 qualifying, with Christian Gytkjaer on four and Braithwaite and Robert Skov with three apiece.

Eriksen is a particular threat from set-pieces and is 7/2 to get the ball rolling or 2/1 to score any time, but Barcelona man Braithwaite is set to the lead the line at the tournament and he is 9/2 and 5/2 in the two markets.

Nice striker Dolberg – who scored two goals in qualifying – is 7/2 and 2/1 respectively like Eriksen.

Finland’s main hopes lie with Norwich striker Pukki, who netted 10 of his country’s 16 goals during qualifying and is 9/1 to break the deadlock and 9/2 to hit the back of the net.

Suomi had only one other player to score more than once during their qualification for Euro 2020 and that was Fredrik Jensen.
