Brighton strengthen grip on top spot with win over Peterborough
Published:It was difficult to see how things could get any better for Brighton than they did on matchday 13, when they were the only one of the top nine teams in League One to triumph, but they are in ever ruder health this weekend.
The Seagulls extended their lead at the top from six points to eight after making the supposedly difficult task of winning away to Peterborough, who were joint-second ahead of the game, look simple with a 3-0 stroll past the ten-man hosts.
In his post-match interview, Peterborough boss Gary Johnson was so disappointed with the manner of the defeat that, despite his side remaining just a point off the automatic promotion pace, he expressed doubts about his performance as manager.
With Bournemouth and Sheffield Wednesday also slipping up, at home to Colchester and away to Charlton respectively, Gus Poyet’s men are looking comfortable, however odds of 5/2 on them winning the title are still available.
The club considered their closest challengers, Southampton, trail them by ten points, though their 3-1 victory over the now Paul Ince-led Notts County saw them finally enter the top half, and with things so tight they are only two points shy of second.
The Saints are 3/1 to take top spot. See the full League One winners betting odds market.
