Liverpool v Brighton betting tips and odds

The Reds are the only unbeaten team in the Premier League following last week’s stunning 5-0 win at arch rivals Manchester United but they are a point behind leaders Chelsea heading into Saturday’s clash with Brighton.

Jurgen Klopp’s fringe players ran out 2-0 winners at Preston in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday but the big guns will return this weekend in a match they start as 1/4 favourites.

The Seagulls were given the runaround by Manchester City last weekend so let’s look at how they are expected to fare at Anfield as we examine some of the markets in our Liverpool v Brighton betting tips.

Match Odds

Brighton went out of the League Cup in a penalty shoot-out at Leicester on Wednesday during which they lost centre-back Dan Burn to what manager Graham Potter described as a “concerning” knee injury.

Adam Webster scored Brighton’s first equaliser and is likely to slot into a back three which is expected to be extremely busy as it was in the 4-1 defeat by champions City.

Last season, a fortuitous goal from Steven Alzate gave Brighton a deserved 1-0 win at Anfield less than 10 weeks after they had drawn 1-1 with the Reds at the Amex Stadium.

Jordan Henderson was playing at centre-back at Anfield that day because of Liverpool’s well-documented injury problems in defence, so another away win at 11/1 may be unlikely considering how Manchester City tore into them last weekend.

Prior to last season, Liverpool had won the past six meetings with Brighton and they can be backed at 9/5 to win and concede as they did in both matches in the 2019-20 campaign,

The Merseysiders to win by at least three goals, as City did, is 17/10 while the hosts are 4/5 to be leading at half-time and full-time bearing in mind Klopp’s side have the best record in the opening 45 minutes (W6 D3 L0).

The Reds have the joint highest number of clean sheets in the Premier League and are 11/8 to win either half, score at least twice and not concede as one of our Liverpool v Brighton betting tips.

Talking Tactics

James Milner will be out until at least next month’s international break after sustaining a hamstring injury but Fabinho could return on Saturday.

Fellow midfielder Naby Keita suffered severe bruising in the challenge which led to Paul Pogba’s dismissal on Sunday but assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders says “it is looking good”.

Potter is likely to bring Webster back into his starting XI following the injury sustained by Burn at the King Power Stadium and the rest of his senior squad rested in midweek should also be back.

Goalscorer Odds

Mo Salah bagged a hat-trick at Old Trafford to make it 10 consecutive games in which the Egyptian has scored and he is understandably 23/10 to break the deadlock and just 8/13 to find the net at any time.

Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino are 10/3 and 9/2 respectively to draw first blood or 21/20 and 6/4 in the anytime goalscorer market while Sadio Mane, who came off the bench for the last 15 minutes at Old Trafford, is 7/2 and 5/4 in the two options.

Virgil van Dijk scored twice against Brighton in this fixture two seasons ago and is 18/1 and 11/2 in our Liverpool v Brighton betting tips.

Neal Maupay seems to be Brighton’s best option at 11/1 to break the deadlock or 7/2 to score while Leandro Trossard is 16/1 and 5/1.

Centre-backs Webster and Shane Duffy can be backed at 20/1 and 12/1 to find the net.
