Darren Moore enters the picture in next Leeds manager odds

Leeds’ search for a new manager has taken a fresh twist with Patrick Vieira now the 2/1 second favourite behind Daniel Farke although Darren Moore has also entered the running.

Vieira is understood to be one of the contenders under consideration to fill the vacancy, just like Moore who surprisingly parted ways with Sheffield Wednesday this week less than a month after guiding them to promotion to the Championship.

However, Daniel Farke has drifted to 6/4 in the next Leeds manager odds and is expected to be interviewed this week, along with Vieira.

Here, we look at some of the names in the frame to take over at Elland Road.

Daniel Farke

Farke twice led Norwich to promotion to the Premier League, but was sacked in October 2021 despite a 2-1 victory over Brentford.

The German was appointed head coach of Krasnodar in January 2022 but did not manage a single game because of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and took over at Bundesliga club Borussia Monchengladbach on a three-year deal in June.

However, a 10th-placed finish saw him sacked earlier this month which means he is available for work and is expected to meet with the Leeds hierarchy in the coming days.

Next Leeds manager odds: 6/4

Patrick Vieira

Vieira has been out of work since being sacked by Crystal Palace towards the end of last season but is one of the leading contenders to take the reins at Leeds.

Vieira has had managerial spells at New York City and Nice, who sacked him at the end of 2020 following five successive losses and seven months later he was appointed manager of Crystal Palace.

The Frenchman led the Eagles to 12th place in his debut season, but was shown the door in March after a 12-game winless run.

Next Leeds manager odds: 2/1

Graham Potter

Potter has been linked with almost every high-profile vacancy since the end of the season and he is creeping up the list of potential candidates to replace Sam Allardyce.

The former Chelsea boss was 14/1 last week, but those odds have more than halved and he now finds himself third favourite.

The former West Brom and York defender enjoyed incredible success in Sweden, taking Ostersund from the fourth division into the top flight and winning their domestic cup competition in 2017 which saw them go on to reach the group stage of the Europa League after winning three qualifiers.

Potter joined Brighton following a year with Swansea and in his third season led the club to ninth place – their highest top-flight finish which caught the interest of big-spending Chelsea where he signed a five-year deal.

However, he was sacked just 31 games into his reign, leaving the Blues in 11th place.

Next Leeds manager odds: 5/1

Darren Moore

Moore steered Sheffield Wednesday back into the Championship in dramatic fashion after they overturned a 4-0 deficit against Peterborough to reach the play-off final where they beat Barnsley in the 123rd minute.

However, a reported clash with chairman Dejphon Chansiri over transfer policy led to Moore’s shock exit and he has immediately been linked with the job at Elland Road.

American investment group 49ers Enterprises are set to take charge of Leeds after agreeing a deal to buy out chairman Andrea Radrizzani’s controlling stake, and with world-leading golfers Rickie Fowler, Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth poised to start investing in the club, Moore is likely to view United as an attractive proposition despite their relegation.

Next Leeds manager odds: 10/1

Carlos Corberan

The Spaniard spent three years at Leeds where he worked under Marcelo Bielsa as first-team coach, so he would be a popular appointment given how much he respected the Argentinian, who is still revered by United fans.

Corberan worked wonders at Huddersfield in the 2021-22 season, leading them to the Championship play-off final when they were expected to struggle, but left in the close season because of a perceived lack of ambition by the club.

A short-lived spell at Olympiacos followed before he took over at West Brom, who were second from bottom when he replaced Steve Bruce as manager, but a remarkable run saw them challenge for the play-offs only to fall just short.

However, he is still under contract unlike the leading candidates and Leeds have yet to make an approach.

Next Leeds manager odds: 10/1

Best of the rest

Lee Bowyer experienced the highs with Leeds having been a key member of the squad that reached the Champions League semi-finals in the 2000-01 season. Has experience of managing in the Championship with Charlton and Birmingham, but has drifted to 20/1 from 14/1.

Former Fulham, Bournemouth and Club Brugge manager Scott Parker remains at 14/1, with Argentinian Diego Flores, recently sacked by Godoy Cruz, available at 16/1.
