Palace v Villa betting tips and odds

Steven Gerrard made a winning start to life as Villa manager with last week’s 2-0 victory over Brighton, but has a tough task on his hands in Saturday’s trip to Crystal Palace who are unbeaten in seven.

Palace remain in the top half of the table following last week’s unexpectedly high-scoring affair at Burnley, a 3-3 draw in which five of the goals were scored in the first half.

The Eagles are the 6/5 favourites to win their fourth game of the season, but let’s delve into some of the other possibilities in our Palace v Villa betting tips.

Match Odds

Only Chelsea and Liverpool have lost fewer games than Palace this season, but with just three wins to their name they are developing a reputation as draw specialists.

Saturday’s game at Turf Moor was their seventh draw of the campaign overall and fifth in seven outings, only one of which ended goalless.

Another share of the spoils is priced at 23/10 and a score draw is 13/4, although it’s 11/2 on a goal in both halves and the points to be split which would have paid out in four of their previous games.

Villa, meanwhile, are 12/5 to make it back-to-wins since Gerrard replaced Dean Smith as manager, although strangely the home team has won the last six Premier League matches between these clubs.

The last three games against Saturday’s opponents have resulted in a one-goal margin of victory for Palace so we go 14/5 on that outcome as one of our Palace v Villa betting tips.

Vieira’s men have one of the best second-half records in the Premier League, winning six of their 12 games, but have been drawing at the break in four of their six home games.

With that in mind, Draw FT/Palace FT should be considered at 4/1.

Talking Tactics

Vieira has stuck successfully with a 4-3-3 formation throughout the season and the addition of Eberechi Eze on the bench for the first time following a freak Achilles injury in May has improved the quality available to the Frenchman.

Christian Benteke was the main striker at the weekend, scoring twice and winning seven aerial battles with James Tarkowski and Ben Mee, so he is likely to start up front with Wilfried Zaha and either Jordan Ayew or Odsonne Edouard.

Luka Milivojevic also returned to the heart of midfield in place of James McArthur who is out for a few weeks with a hamstring injury.

Gerrard also likes to deploy a 4-3-3 which he used on Saturday when Danny Ings started his first game in a month accompanied by Ollie Watkins and Emi Buendia in attack, with Marvelous Nakamba, John McGinn and Jacob Ramsey in midfield.

Goalscorer Odds

Benteke has four goals in his last five Premier League appearances and he was also on target in Belgium’s 3-1 World Cup qualifying win against Estonia, so he looks a worthy 9/2 co-favourite to break the deadlock or 15/8 to score, the same odds as Edouard and Zaha.

One player to consider for our Palace v Villa betting tips is on-loan Chelsea winger Conor Gallagher who has been among the goals lately and is 6/1 and 5/2 in the two markets, while Ayew is 11/1 and 4/1, although he has yet to score this season.

Ings is considered Villa’s most potent threat at 5/1 and 21/10, with Watkins not far behind at 6/1 and 12/5.

Anwar El Ghazi scored home and away against Palace last season and is 8/1 to draw first blood or 16/5 to find the net.

McGinn is 10/1 to repeat the goal which broke the deadlock in this fixture in the previous campaign or the Scot is 4/1 in the anytime market.
