It hasn’t all been plain sailing at the Emirates Stadium this season, but following four wins on the trot, things are looking up for Arsenal.

And there could be more good news on the way for fans, with Gunners lining up a January swoop for Napoli midfielder Jorginho.

The 25-year-old has made 11 starts for Partenopei this term, helping the Calabrian to top spot in Serie A. As well as a string of solid displays in defensive midfield, Jorginho has shown his class coming forward, with a couple of well-taken goals.

That’s nothing new for the Napoli man. Ever since breaking onto the scene with Hellas Verona back in 2011, he’s built a reputation for tidy and dynamic midfield play, and an eye for goal. That included netting seven times in 18 Serie A games for I Gialloblu in 2013-14.

On paper, Arsenal aren’t short of holding midfielders. The terrier-like Granit Xhaka and reliable Mohamed Elneny have generally looked good this term. But the classy Jorginho could definitely add an extra dimension in that part of the pitch.

It’s also unlikely to be a move that would break the bank for the Gunners. Transfermarkt.co.uk estimate the player’s market value at £19.8m. And based on his displays this term, that would prove something of a bargain for the Imbituba native.

As for the current Arsenal crop, they can secure progression to the Europa League knock-out stages with victory over Crvena Zvezda on Thursday night. A Gunners win is priced up at 1/3.
