Chelsea v Arsenal betting tips: Top-four spot in sight for Blues
Chelsea moved firmly into pole position for a Champions League spot at the weekend when they beat Manchester City in stoppage time to move above Leicester into third spot, six points clear of fifth-placed West Ham with three games remaining.
The Blues have a tough run-in and face Leicester for the first of two meetings in four days in this weekend’s FA Cup final but they understandably start as 7/10 favourites against the Gunners having lost just one Premier League game since Thomas Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard in January.
Goals have played a major part in recent meetings between the London rivals, so let’s looks at some of the trends for Wednesday’s Chelsea v Arsenal betting tips.
The Blues are just two games away from qualifying for next season’s Champions League, although should they blow it they still get a second bite at the cherry in the final against Manchester City later this month.
Despite Chelsea being firm favourites to win this week, the Gunners have won the last two matches, a 3-1 Boxing Day win at the Emirates coming less than five months after their FA Cup triumph at Wembley where a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang double sealed a 2-1 comeback victory.
Arsenal are 21/5 to win at Stamford Bridge where they are unbeaten in their last three Premier League visits, two of which were draws which is available at 13/5.
The last five encounters have produced goals at both ends, so we go 10/11 on both teams to score while four or more goals – which has occurred in five of the last seven in all competitions – is priced at 12/5.
Jorginho has scored in two of his previous three starts against the Gunners and is 10/3 to score and Chelsea to win.
Tuchel made five changes to the team that ran Real Madrid ragged in the Champions League for the win at Manchester City, so the likes of Kai Havertz, Mason Mount, Jorginho, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva could return, although Andreas Christensen limped off with a hamstring injury shortly after the break and is unlikely to start.
Mikel Arteta’s future has been questioned following Arsenal’s Europa League exit and he made a big call on Sunday when he left Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Thomas Partey on the bench but his faith in the youngsters was rewarded by a 3-1 victory over West Brom.
The senior players may return for the game in west London, although David Luiz and Granit Xhaka are touch and go having picked up injuries recently.
Aubameyang has scored three goals in his last two appearances against Chelslea and is 11/2 to break the deadlock and 21/10 in the any time market while Nicolas Pepe is 7/2 to make it 13 for the season in all competitions having scored against the Baggies with a thunderous strike.
Chelsea attacker Havertz – the two-goal hero against Fulham – is 9/2 to get the ball rolling and Jorginho is 11/4 while misfiring striker Timo Werner is 7/4 to get on the scoresheet.
