Leicester, Newcastle and Liverpool set to shock on deadline day

| 31.01.2016

Transfer deadline days come packed full of optimism. Struggling sides cross their fingers that a saviour arrives to carry them clear of relegation, while teams at the sharp end of the table search for the player that will seal them the title.

That clamouring all makes for an entertaining evening for the fans, all of whom wait anxiously to find out what last-minute deals their teams make before the window inevitably “slams shut”.

But what clubs have the capacity to surprise on this seasons’ January deadline day? Well, here are three candidates:

Loic Remy to Leicester

Chelsea are no longer a threat to Leicester’s pursuit of the title and could deal Loic Remy, a backup striker potentially replaced by the arrival of Alexandre Pato, to the Foxes.

Claudio Ranieri’s men have relied heavily on Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez for goals this season and may be tempted to dip into the transfer market to find that duo some support.

With the Foxes three points clear of Arsenal and an 8/1 to land the title, the Frenchman’s arrival should spur them on to the biggest surprise of all.

Saido Berahino to Newcastle

Tottenham are expected to return to West Brom to try and land Berahino as a Harry-Kane understudy. Judging by how that went on the last transfer deadline day, however, it’s certainly not guaranteed.

Things could be made even more complicated by Newcastle’s interest in the striker. Some media outlets believe that the Magpies will look to outbid Spurs for the Burundi-born star, with some suggesting the Toon could go offer as much as £35m.

Nobody to Liverpool

With the number of injuries and extra games Liverpool are suffering from at the moment, the temptation for the Reds to sign additional bodies to lighten the load on a thinly-stretched squad is palpable.

However, Jurgen Klopp has remained hesitant to engage gung-ho mode so far this January and is just as likely to do nothing on deadline day, although that won’t stop the rumours.
