In the second part of an exclusive interview with Ladbrokes, former Lionesses international Siobhan Chamberlain previews the forthcoming WSL season which kicks off on October 1 and reveals the World Cup player she would like to see playing in England.

In part one, the ex-Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United goalkeeper looked back at the World Cup and discussed the future of head coach Sarina Wiegman.

Expect some big WSL signings in the next few weeks

The next few weeks are going to be really interesting in terms of signings. I’m sure that every WSL club will have sent scouts over to the World Cup to closely watch players who have perhaps gone under the radar in the past, and maybe a couple of players from those smaller nations who have had exceptional tournaments will end up playing in England next season.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see a few big signings in the next few weeks. Clubs that are in a position to make those signings and get those players integrated within their set-ups are going to have a fantastic chance of challenging Chelsea.

Chelsea will be the favourites for another title, definitely. They strengthened before the World Cup, and knowing how much they like to have a huge competitive squad, I think they might go and sign another couple of players who have had strong tournaments Down Under. But even if they don’t add, they’ve got some great business done. They’re a brilliant side and they’re fairly settled already.

Arsenal have obviously made some good signings, but they’ve retained a couple of players too, which is just as important for them. Manchester United have just signed Geyse from Barcelona… that’s a big signing. Rumours suggest they’re looking at a couple of other names, which I think they need to do, especially after losing Alessia Russo and Ona Batlle.

A lot is going to depend on this transfer window, but ultimately, Chelsea are going to be the ones that are right up there, with everyone else chasing.

The ‘under-the-radar’ World Cup star I’d love to see in the WSL

I don’t want to give a high-profile name here as someone who I’d love to see playing in the WSL next season, because, of course, everyone would love to see Aitana Bonmati playing over here. But someone who’s a little bit more under the radar is Kyra Cooney-Cross, Australia’s midfielder. I was really, really impressed with her. I thought she had a brilliant World Cup.

I do quite a bit of work with Man United as they’re the last team I played for. I think they’re very close to challenging for the title, and an addition such as Cooney-Cross in that midfield would not only be an exciting one, but I think it would take them one step closer to the title.
