Super Cup betting tips and odds

Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt contest the UEFA Super Cup in Helsinki on Wednesday night in the annual battle between the Champions League and Europa League winners.

Los Blancos were crowned European champions for the 14th time when they beat Liverpool in Paris and are 4/9 to win inside 90 minutes against the Bundesliga side, who won the Europa League without losing a game in the group or knockout stages and are priced at 6/1.

We’re looking at some of the main talking points and odds to help with our Super Cup betting tips.

Real Madrid v Eintracht Frankfurt form

Los Blancos have yet to start their season and have played just three friendlies since winning the Champions League in May, a 1-0 defeat by arch rivals Barcelona, a 2-2 draw with Club America and 2-0 win against Juventus all on their tour of the USA.

As well as being crowned European champions, Carlo Ancelotti’s side won LaLiga by 13 points from Barca and are 11/10 to retain their title.

They also made two major signings during the summer, Germany centre-back Antonio Rudiger on a free transfer from Chelsea and defensive midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni from Monaco in a deal worth around £72million.

Frankfurt won their first European title in 42 years when they beat Rangers in a penalty shoot-out in Seville but they were brought down to earth in their opening game of the Bundesliga at the weekend.

They shipped five goals before half-time against champions Bayern Munich, who also hit the woodwork three times in the opening 45 minutes of the 6-1 victory.

Although Frankfurt enjoyed success on the European stage last season, their 11th-placed finish in the Bundesliga was their worst in six years which prompted a big influx of new players such as AC Milan winger Jens Petter Hauge, Bayer Leverkusen striker Lucas Alario and former Dortmund midfielder Mario Gotze from PSV.

Despite losing so heavily against Bayern, at least they have got a competitive game under their belt and six of the last seven Super Cups have gone to extra time.

With that in mind, a draw catches the eye at 7/2 as the first of our Super Cup betting tips, with Real Madrid either winning in extra time at 8/1 or on penalties 16/1 at much higher odds.

Real Madrid v Eintracht Frankfurt head to head

This will be the first meeting between the teams since the incredible 1960 European Cup final which Real Madrid won 7-3 at Hampden Park where Ferenc Puskas scored four and Alfredo Di Stefano bagged a hat-trick.

Over 3.5 goals can be backed at 29/20 and a 2-2 draw is available at 14/1 while both teams to score in the first half is 17/5 in our Super Cup betting tips.

Although that meeting 62 years ago was their only previous encounter, Frankfurt sprang a massive surprise by eliminating Real Madrid’s bitter rivals Barcelona from last season’s Europa League, drawing 1-1 in the first leg and then taking a 3-0 lead at Camp Nou before the Catalans responded with two stoppage-time goals.

Real Madrid v Eintracht Frankfurt team news

Los Blancos don’t appear to have any injury problems and Ancelotti could start with the same team that beat Liverpool on that awful night in Paris.

Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner made a triple substitution at half-time on Friday night, so Sebastian Rode, Jesper Lindstrom and Rafael Borre will be fretting about their places in the starting line-up.

Serbian winger Filip Kostic started on the left against Bayern last week but has been linked with a move to Juventus, so it remains to be seen whether he is involved.

Goalscorer odds

Karim Benzema topped the goalscoring charts in LaLiga and Champions League with 27 and 15 goals respectively, so it is no surprise to see the striker is 21/10 favourite to get the ball rolling or 3/5 to find the net any time.

The 34-year-old France international scored against both Club America and Juventus, so looks to be ready to hit the ground running.

Vinicius Jr is 7/2 and 6/5 in the two markets but Federico Valverde, who went through the whole season without scoring aside from a goal against Barca in the domestic Super Cup, is much higher at 9/1 and 16/5.

Rodrygo could be introduced from off the bench and is 21/10 to score in our Super Cup betting tips.

Despite being hooked on Friday, Borre is the 17/2 favourite from the Frankfurt contingent to open the scoring, with Alario 9/1 or 3/1 to breach Real Madrid’s defence.

Gotze put in a man-of-the-match display in a 4-0 win against Magdeburg in the German Cup and is 16/1 and 11/2 in the two options.
