West Ham v Chelsea betting tips and odds

It’s been a busy week in the Premier League as a new round of fixtures gets under way with the London derby between West Ham and Chelsea in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off.

The Blues maintained their one-point lead at the top of the table with a fortunate 2-1 win at Watford on Wednesday, while the Hammers were frustrated by a VAR call which probably denied them victory in a 1-1 draw with Brighton.

Thomas Tuchel’s charges are 8/11 to maintain their excellent away form by winning at the London Stadium, but let’s check out some of the other markets in our West Ham v Chelsea betting tips.

Match Odds

Tuchel said Chelsea got “a lucky win” at Vicarage Road, describing his side’s performance as “very sloppy” and “unusual”, but admitting that he had not prepared them “for what was coming”.

The German made six changes to the side that had drawn 1-1 with Manchester United, so the likes of Reece James, Jorginho, Thiago Silva and Callum Hudson-Odoi could return here.

Chelsea have won six and drawn one of their seven games on the road and all of their victories have come with three or fewer match goals, so we go 27/20 on that outcome.

The west Londoners have only conceded six goals this season and just twice away from Stamford Bridge so a win to nil looks an interesting prospect at 7/4 bearing in mind that was the outcome in both of last season’s meetings.

That said, the Hammers stuck three past Liverpool and Manuel Lanzini scored a late consolation in a 2-1 defeat at Manchester City, who like Chelsea have conceded single figures this season.

The visitors to win and concede is 14/5, although the odds are higher at 4/1 on the visitors to win or draw, both teams to score in the second half and over 2.5 goals in our West Ham v Chelsea betting tips.

Talking Tactics

Moyes stuck with his favoured 4-2-3-1 formation against the Seagulls in which Declan Rice and goalscorer Tomas Soucek played in the holding roles behind Pablo Fornals, Said Benrahma and Jarrod Bowen, with Michail Antonio operating as the sole striker.

Left-back Aaron Cresswell missed Wednesday’s game having picked up an injury at the Etihad, so Ben Johnson may be asked to fill in once more for the Hammers who are winless in three.

Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah went off with an injury an hour into the game and Saul Niguez’s nightmare continued when he came off at half-time, replaced by Silva.

Romelu Lukaku came on for the final 20 minutes and is pushing for a place in the starting line-up although he may have to settle for a place on the bench.

Goalscorer Odds

Defenders have accounted for 13 of Chelsea’s goals, nine more than the next highest in the Premier League, so James looks an interesting option at 11/1 to break the deadlock or 4/1 to score any time having struck five times in all competitions this season.

Antonio Rudiger scored at Leicester and struck the bar against Manchester United with a fierce rising drive, yet he is 20/1 and 7/1 in the two markets, while Silva is 25/1 and 9/1 in our West Ham v Chelsea betting tips.

Mason Mount scored Chelsea’s opener having earlier hit the post, so he can be backed at 11/2 and 21/10, but Lukaku is the favourite in both options at 4/1 and 13/8.

Antonio leads the way at 7/1 to score the game’s first goal from the Hammers contingent or he is 13/5 to find the net as he almost did against Brighton if VAR had not intervened.

Fornals, Benrahma and Bowen are 11/1, 12/1 and 12/1 respectively to net the opener or 4/1, 9/2 and 5/1 in the anytime market, while Soucek and Rice are 6/1 and 17/2 to breach Chelsea’s mean defence.
