West Ham v Crystal Palace preview and odds

Crystal Palace are still waiting for a first goal of the season as we look at some West Ham v Crystal Palace betting tips for Saturday’s trip to the London Stadium.

Patrick Vieira at least has a point on the board after taking over as Palace manager this summer but that came in last week’s 0-0 draw with Brentford.

It has been a very different start for West Ham, who are the early Premier League leaders with six points and eight goals already.

Match Odds

West Ham have the extra challenge of competing in Europe as well as the Premier League this season and their squad may be stretched to the limit in time. For now though they are off to a flying start and have maintained the momentum from last season’s impressive campaign.

They enjoyed a 4-2 win at Newcastle on the opening weekend and were rampant again on Monday night as they claimed a 4-1 victory at home to Leicester, helped by the visitors having Ayoze Perez sent off late in the first half.

The Hammers are firm favourites at 4/7 to make it three wins out of three on Saturday while Palace are 5/1 underdogs, with the draw priced at 3/1.

Palace also failed to find the net in a 1-0 Carabao Cup defeat at Watford in midweek and are 6/5 to fire blanks again in West Ham v Crystal Palace betting tips.

West Ham are 31/20 to win to nil but are yet to keep a clean sheet and both teams to score is 20/23, which would have paid out in the last eight meetings.

For a bigger price, a West Ham victory and over 3.5 goals – which has paid out in both of their games so far this season plus January’s 3-2 win at Selhurst Park– is available at 13/4.

Talking Tactics

Last week’s draw with Brentford at least got Palace off the mark after starting the season with a 3-0 defeat at Chelsea but the challenge for Vieira now is to improve their goal threat without becoming too open in defence.

They created a few chances against Brentford and could have gone ahead when Conor Gallagher hit both the post and crossbar, while Christian Benteke and James McArthur went close after the break.

Vieira was “frustrated” by the lack of goals and said: “This is a side of the game we need to improve. We need more players inside the box because at times Christian was isolated.

“If we had players around him it would be a bit easier for him, so this is one side we need to work on.”

West Ham relished having 60,000 fans back inside the stadium and were one of the most improved teams during the ‘lockdown’ season.

They will come out firing and full of confidence, with West Ham 6/4 to be ahead at both half-time and full-time.

Goalscorer Odds

Michail Antonio broke West Ham’s Premier League scoring record with his late double against Leicester – having previously shared it with Paolo Di Canio – and said he wants to “beat it by loads”.

In terms of West Ham v Crystal Palace betting tips, that makes him an obvious pick at 11/8 to add to his tally here or 7/2 to open the scoring.

Antonio also features in some #GetAPrice options, including 8/5 for West Ham to win and the striker to have at least two shots on target.

Palace will try and get more support to Benteke and he is 14/5 to find the net or 15/2 to score first – the same price as team-mate Wilfried Zaha.
