France v Portugal Euro 2024 quarter-final preview

Ladbrokes previews France's Euro 2024 quarter-final clash against Portugal on Friday evening in Germany. Will Didier Deschamps’ team continue their march towards the title, or will Roberto Martinez’s squad cause an upset?

France have had a mixed Euro 2024 campaign, only winning one of their group stages matches and draw the other two. They also relied on a late deflected goal to beat Belgium in the last 16, but given the depth and quality of their squad, they're still one of the favourites to win the entire competition.

Leading the French attack, Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann, and Marcus Thuram haven't been able to show too much of their quality at Euro 2024, with Mbappe only managing to score one goal in the three games he's played. However, the Real Madrid man is still a real problem for any defender, and the Portugal coaching staff will be stressing the importance of dealing with him to their players.

Portugal, known for their resilience and tactical versatility, have navigated the group stage with determination. They secured 6 points from 3 matches, showcasing their ability to compete with Europe's best.

However, they needed penalties to see off a resilient Slovenia side in the last 16, with Cristiano Ronaldo breaking down in tears mid-game after missing a crucial penalty that would have won the game for his side in normal time.

A win for France, according to the bookies, is seen as the most likely outcome, and it's actually a draw with the closest odds to that, rather than a win for Portugal.

France's squad is in good shape, but they will be without Adrian Rabiot who will miss the game through suspension, with several options able to be called upon by Deschamps.

As for Portugal, the medical staff will be working in the hours leading up to the game to see who is fully fit, with many of the players being forced to play 120 minutes this week against Slovenia.
