John Coughlin wins Ladbrokes League 2 Manager of the Month award

John Coughlin has been awarded the Ladbrokes League 2 Manager of the Month award for April.

Berwick Rangers had been struggling at the wrong end of the table when Coughlin arrived for his second spell as manager in November 2015.

However, the experienced boss has revitalised the Wee Gers’ fortunes, and their April form showed that the borders team are continuing to go from strength to strength.

Coughlin guided Berwick to three wins and a draw in five games during April, with a 2-0 home victory against champions East Fife the pick of the bunch, though the 3-0 defeat of third-placed Clyde at Shielfield Park was also highly impressive.

The Black & Gold also managed a memorable win on the road, coming from behind to win 2-1 at Arbroath thanks to Michael McKenna’s 90th-minute winner.

Eventually securing a sixth-place finish, the future looks bright for the New York-born boss, who is now in his second stint with the club he also managed from 2005-07.

Coughlin told the Berwick Advertiser, “I am delighted with the way we have played recently.”

He added “This has been a long, demanding season for the players. They have hauled themselves off the bottom [of the league] and I am extremely proud of them.”

If the 53-year-old can continue their April form into the beginning of the next campaign, chances are they may be aiming for the top of Ladbrokes League 2 instead.
