League Two betting tips and odds from the play-off semi-finals

The League Two semi-final play-offs conclude this week and hopefully we’ll enjoy similar success as the first legs.

Mansfield beat Northampton to give us a 23/20 winner and scored at least twice at 11/8, while Swindon’s 2-1 victory against Port Vale gave us a 15/8 winner on both teams scoring, over 2.5 goals and either team to win for a 5/1 double.

Harry McKirdy netted both goals for the Robins and ensured a 17/10 winner in the anytime goalscorer market, so it was a decent couple of days for our League Two betting tips.

We start with Wednesday’s match between Northampton and Mansfield, who are the 11/5 underdogs despite their 2-1 win from the first leg.

Northampton v Mansfield (Wed, 19.45, Sky Sports)

First-half goals from top scorer Rhys Oates and Jordan Bowery put the Stags in control of the first leg, but Ali Koiki halved the deficit just after the hour with a low finish from the edge of the area.

Cobblers manager Jon Brady believes his team have the advantage going into the second leg at Sixfields where they have been strong this season (W13 D5 L5).

He said: “We definitely felt we were in the ascendancy in the second half and we’re going to make sure we take that momentum into the next game. We did come back to 2-1 but we know we still have a lot to do. But we know what we can do.”

The hosts are 11/8 to win on Wednesday which looks a possibility bearing in mind the home team has won all three meetings between the two teams this season.

All three matches involved three or fewer match goals, so Northampton to win that way certainly has appeal at 9/5 in our League Two betting tips.

The home team was leading at half-time and full-time in all three games and that option is available at 3/1, while a one-goal margin of victory for Northampton is 11/4.

Port Vale v Swindon (Thu, 19.45, Sky Sports)

The second semi-final followed a similar pattern to the first, with the home team taking a two-goal lead before James Wilson pulled one back for Vale, who are 23/20 favourites to win after 90 minutes.

The Robins have comfortably the best away record in the division (W13 D4 L6) and they beat their play-off opponents 3-1 at Vale Park in January.

Manager Ben Garner said: “We won the game which is great and we will now go to do the same on Thursday and win the game. We won’t change our approach to the way we have approached every away game this season.”

Swindon are 12/5 to win the second leg, but the next of our League Two betting tips is to follow what has happened in all three games and go for over 2.5 goals, both teams to score and either team to win once more at 15/8.

McKirdy to score against his former club also catches the eye at 9/5.
