Runner-up gets paid out as winner if Tiger wins Australian Open
Published:Tiger Woods is convinced he is back to his best and that he is in with more than a chance of winning his first tournament in over two years at the Australian Open this weekend.
We’ve heard this several times from Woods in the past few years, but there is now a defiance to the 14-time major champion that is making bookies and punters sit up and take notice.
He is currently leading the tournament after two rounds and, to mark Woods’ return to the big time, Ladbrokes are offering to pay out the runner-up as winner if Woods wins the tournament for the first time.
That makes backing Australian World No.7 Jason Day look an extremely tempting bet at 10/1.
Day has made big strides this season but has failed to add to his single win on the PGA Tour at the 2010 Byron Nelson Championship.
However, he did finish second on two occasions at the US Masters and the US Open.
With another second place finish for Day at the Australian Open paying out as winner if Woods wins the tournament, a punt on the talented Australian could be well worth considering.
