South Korea v Mexico betting tips and odds
Mexico are 13/10 favourites to win their quarter-final against South Korea and take another step towards adding the gold medal they won at London 2012.
El Tri were regarded as outsiders to win the men’s tournament but impressive 4-1 and 3-0 victories against France and South Africa ensured they finished group runners-up behind hosts Japan and they are now 12/1 for Olympic glory.
It promises to be a goal-laden match in Yokohama on Saturday so let’s examine the markets and odds in our South Korea v Mexico betting tips.
Match Odds
South Korea started their campaign with a disappointing 1-0 defeat by New Zealand but 4-0 and 6-0 wins against Romania and Honduras meant they topped the group with six points and they are 14/1 in the men’s Olympics odds.
The Asian side scored three penalties in that win against Honduras, two of which were converted by Bordeaux striker Hwang Ui-jo (pictured below) who bagged a hat-trick, and the expectation is there will be goals in this quarter-final involving the two highest-scoring nations from the men’s competition.
Mexico’s 2-1 defeat by Japan was their only game not to hit the +3.5 mark during the group stage and South Korea have scored 10 times so far.
Kim Hak-bum’s side are 19/4 to win and both teams to score while the Mexicans are 16/5 in the equivalent market bearing in mind they have scored and conceded in two of their three matches.
In the individual goals market, Mexico and South Korea are 11/10 and 17/10 respectively to score at least twice.

Talking Tactics
Mexico have deployed a 4-3-3 throughout the tournament with goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, who celebrated his 36th birthday in Tokyo, bringing invaluable experience to this essentially under-23 team.
The Mexicans have been spreading the goals throughout the team, although Chivas striker Alexis Vega tops the charts with two.
For South Korea, Hwang and Valencia midfielder Lee Kang-in both have three, two behind the tournament’s top scorer Richarlison, and they have twice played a 4-5-1 system although they went with a basic 4-4-2 in the 4-0 win against Romania.
