Struggling Dundee United will triumph in derby with Dundee

Published:

There is no getting past the fact that Dundee United are having a terrible season and they find themselves rooted to the bottom of the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership.

The Terrors have only picked up ten points in 20 league games, winning just twice.

Therefore, heading into their derby with local rivals Dundee should be a daunting prospect for a team priced at 2/9 to end the season bottom.

However, given the history of the Dundee derby, it would be more lucrative to back the Terrors to win at 21/10.

The two rivals have met ten times since 2012, with the Dees only able to come away with bragging rights on one occasion.

Conversely, United have won seven of those encounters and put three or more goals past their neighbours in half of those last ten meetings.

Furthermore, despite their torrid campaign, the Terrors were able to pick up a point when the two sides met at Tannadice Park earlier in the season.

This is further evidence as to who is the dominant team in the derby, particularly as the visitors needed two goals in the last ten minutes to snatch that draw.

Despite their overall poor record, Dundee do manage to find the net in the derby and have done so seven times in their last five meetings.

Kane Hemmings is proving himself to be a prolific striker with the Dees and is the fourth top scorer in the league after smashing in ten goals.

The Englishman opened the scoring in his last two games and would be the perfect choice for Ladbrokes’ *double odds first goalscorer promotion.

Backing the 23-year-old to make it three in a row is priced at 9/2 and being up against the worst defence in the league gives him that opportunity.
