The waiting is over – Un De Sceaux gets the Tingle Creek nod

Cheers, Willie. Or should that be ‘why were we fooled?’ Either way, the news that Un De Sceaux and NOT Douvan will contest this year’s Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown has rendered the crux of our previous article on this week’s big race pretty meaningless.

C’est la vie, that’s racing for you and we move on.

What we do now know is that Willie Mullins will send the 2015 Arkle winner to Surrey as the 6/4 favourite to beat five other entrants.

The fact that the Closutton trainer had such a quality pair to choose from in the first place is what makes Mullins the envy of many of his contemporaries.

And in truth, while some may consider UDS a second string behind his missing stablemate, he’s still plenty capable of getting the job done.

The buzzy eight-year-old remains an unpredictable sort but there’s no doubting he has the talent to prevail.

Returning hero Sprinter Sacre denied this weekend’s jolly two of last season’s big prizes. However, the opposition here doesn’t match the might of the Black Aeroplane.

Sire De Grugy is rated as a potential Tingle Creek threat at 10/3.

The former winner roared back into life at Ascot last time out but finished in behind UDS three times last term.

Meanwhile, Gary Moore’s other entrant, Ar Mad, has progressed well but looks like he’ll need a run under his belt before challenging in this type of company.

Completing the line-up are two Tom George runners in God’s Own and Sir Valentino, while Paul Nicholls managed to squeeze in Vibrato Valtat after the race was reoffered.
