Watch: Scottish Football Gold – Laudrup wins league for Rangers
Published:
Our look back at some of the biggest and best goals in recent Scottish Premiership history continues today as we revisit Tannadice Park in May 1997, where Rangers were looking to win their ninth Premiership title in a row.
The Gers went into the Wednesday night game against Dundee United knowing that just a point from their two remaining fixtures would see them crowned champions.
Rangers were in the mood from the get-go against a United side who had only lost two games at home all season and hit the ground running with a bullet header from Brian Laudrup in the eleventh minute.
A perfectly executed cross from Charlie Miller found the Danish forward who powerfully put the ball past the Terrors’ keeper Sieb Diijkstra, who was rooted to his spot.
Rangers held on for the rest of the game and ran out 1-0 winners, meaning the title was staying in the blue half of Glasgow for at least another year.
