World Grand Prix Tips: Suljovic, Wright and Lewis to edge through?

The second round stage of the World Grand Prix draws to a close this evening, with Peter Wright, Mensur Suljovic and Adrian Lewis all in action.

Will the trio join Michael van Gerwen and Gary Anderson in the next round? We’ve tipped up tonight’s encounters below.

Mensur Suljovic v Ian White (7:15pm)

Neither of these two had to work particularly hard for their first round victories. Suljovic breezed past James Wade 2-0, while White made similarly light work of debutant Josh Payne.

This match should be closer. Our traders think so too, with the Austrian a 1/2 favourite, against 13/8 for White. Indeed, Suljovic won the last time the pair met here in 2017.

The German Masters winner should have the consistency required to prevail. But White is taken to edge the 180 count after chalking up six in round one. He’s 4/6 to edge the maximum count.

Steve Beaton v Gerwyn Price (8:15pm)

1996 world champion Beaton provided the shock of the first round by seeing off current world champ Rob Cross. Price edged a heated contest with Danny Noppert 2-0.

Both players will be hoping to improve on their respective performances here. Neither man averaged above 85 last time, although Beaton did record a 10% better checkout rate than Price.

He’s 13/8 to reach the quarter-finals for the first time since 2005, with 1/2 available for Price. A tight match could also produce Over 4.5 Sets at 13/8.

Peter Wright v Jermaine Wattimena (9:15pm)

Is Wright back? The Scotsman recorded an average of 98 and a checkout rate of 60% en-route to a dominant 2-0 win against Steve West in the first round.

Opponent Wattimena did enough against a below-par Mervyn King. But he’ll need to step things up significant if Wright is in the same vein of form tonight.

Snakebite is 1/6 to head through to the next round, with 6/4 available about his King of the Oche odds. A second successive whitewash is a short-price 11/8.

James Wilson v Adrian Lewis (10:15pm)

Two men in desperate need of an extended run in a tournament meet in the final match of the night, as Wilson takes on two-time world champion Lewis.

Jackpot showed grit and determination to see off Michael Smith in the last round, while the Lethal Biscuit nailed 58.33% of his doubles in an unremarkable yet clinical performance.

Wilson is the outsider at 7/4 in spite of that, against 4/9 for Lewis. Regardless of the result, the latter of the pair should edge the 180 count at 10/11, while it’s 4/6 he follows his first round total of six with Over 3.5 here.
