Ferguson in danger of losing job after 2-1 defeat to Forest

Defeat to Nottingham Forest ends a terrible week for Darren Ferguson, the loss to arch rivals Burnely after leading 3-1 was followed by a FA misconduct charge.

And despite leading 1-0 at half time in front of their home fans on Tuesday, Forest condemned Preston to their fifth defeat in six games to leave Preston languishing in 23rd place and facing a relegation battle.

John Parkin gave the Deepdale crowd something to cheer with his 42nd minute strike but two second half goals from Lewis McGugan gave Forest the three points.

Darren Ferguson will be feeling the heat from the Lilywhites faithful and those fans are facing up to a real chance of a relegation battle come the end of the season.

Preston host Norwich on Saturday and are 6/4 to win, and three points is a must if they are to ease the pressure on their manager’s shoulders.

Portsmouth are also yet to win in the Championship this season and their on-field woes are starting to rival their off-field ones as they prop up the rest of the division with just two points.

James Vaughan was Pompey’s tormentor with a debut hat-trick for Crystal Palace as they cruised to a 4-1 victory and things aren’t getting easier for Steve Cotterill’s side as they face a trip to Sheffield United on Saturday – they are 3/1 to win.

Derby fill the final relegation spot after their 2-0 defeat to Hull but Bristol City are in rapid decline and their 2-0 loss at home to Watford sees them poised to close to the relegation zone.

Bristol are 11/10 to beat Coventry on Saturday and they will be looking to end their run of three straight defeats.

Preston will need to win their home games if they are to avoid a relegation scrap. See the latest Championship football betting markets here.
