Cardiff still 5/1 for Championship title despite Bothroyd interest

Cardiff City boss Dave Jones has admitted the club have rejected a bit from a Premier League side for striker Jay Bothroyd.

Bothroyd has enjoyed a mixed season for the Bluebirds, who are currently 5/1 in the Championship betting to finish the season on top of the table.

When the England striker has been on the pitch he’s been brilliant, scoring 15 goals already this term, but his season has been interrupted by injury.

Despite the interest in the striker – whose contract is up at the end of the season – Jones is determined not to be held to ransom and is convinced the striker will stay and help push for promotion to the Premier league.

He said: “I had a long chat with Jay yesterday and I’m sure Jay won’t mind me saying that he wants to stay at this football club.

“We said no to the approach and Jay knows about it, because his contract is up in June and people think they can come and take him for a measly amount of money. It’s not worth what we are trying to do.

“So keep him and get the best out of him and then if he decides to stay with us or he decides to leave then that’s what we will do. He wants to try and sort it out here, but he is entitled to try and get the best deal for him.”

Cardiff face Stoke in their FA Cup replay and you can bet on that game with a free bet worth £25 just by clicking here.

The Bluebirds have lost one of their last 25 on home soil and a free bet on them at 7/4 to beat Stoke and upset the FA Cup odds looks well worth backing – especially with Bothroyd set to start.

A £25 stake on Cardiff to win 2-0 would return £225. New customers can sign up here for a free £25 bet.
