For one night only Watford have Champions League company

Published:

It may not be long before Watford are back playing against the Premier League’s elite, but for now they’ll be aligned with two Champions League heavyweights for Ladbrokes’ latest enhanced treble.

The Championship promotion hopefuls’ tricky trip to face Nottingham Forest makes up one third of the boosted multiple, with Barcelona and Bayern Munich completing the lineup in a 7/1 bet that is out from 11/2.

Slavisa Jokanovic’s men head north for their usual dollop of mid-week league action sat just one point off top spot in what is boiling down to the tightest title race the second tier has seen in some time.

As the pressure builds, the Hornets have shown little sign of wilting, having lost just once in the last 10 outings. The side’s away form, which has seen them go unbeaten in seven and win five times in that stretch, is a real positive ahead of the Forest battle.

In the Champions League, Barcelona are involved in a juicy looking tie with Paris Saint-Germain and will be on the road for the first leg on Wednesday. That shouldn’t be too much of a deterrent though, as the Blaugrana had won 10 straight before drawing with Sevilla last time out.

Bayern Munich are also on the road in the competition, but face a far easier prospect against Porto, who have reached this point of the competition for the first time in six years.

Those same three teams also provide the protagonists for the bookie’s famous goalscoring multiple: the Hitman Treble.

Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, Bayern’s Robert Lewandowski and Watford’s Troy Deeney are in the spotlight on this occasion, with the price of all three scoring pushed out from 10/1 to a 14/1 chance.

Messi has 45 goals in 47 games for club and country this term, Lewandowski has managed 23 in 42 and Deeney has 20 in 39, so there are certainly worse strikers to lump together for a scoring treble.
