#WATO: Darren Bent to net last goal in Championship play-offs

Published:

Derby County haven’t even taken on Hull in the Championship play-off semi-finals yet but one fan is adamant the Rams are not only on their way to Wembley but are poised for glory courtesy of Darren Bent.

The former Ipswich, Tottenham and Aston Villa hitman has bagged just three goals for the iPro Stadium outfit this season but given his knack for scoring late on one punter has requested odds on the 32-year-old having the last word in the final.

Bent’s three goals have all come after the 80th minute this season and all have been pretty goals.

His first strike came in the 89th-minute against MK Dons with the game locked at 1-1. His goal spurred the Rams on to win 3-1 thanks to a stoppage-time effort from Tom Ince.

Bent’s second strike of the season came in the 85th-minute away to Hartlepool, again with the game all square at one apiece.

And his third and final strike of the season rescued a point against fellow play-off hopefuls Sheffield Wednesday, with his 82nd-minute effort earning a 1-1 draw at Pride Park.

So, while he hasn’t exactly been prolific this term this trend has prompted one punter to request a special price through our #WhatAreTheOdds service for Bent to score the final goal in the Championship play-off final.

And given his tendency to turn up late in games the 22/1 offered might tempt more than just this potentially psychic customer.

Derby are 13/8 to win the first leg of their semi-final against the Tigers but 11/4 third favourites to reach the Promised Land that is the Premier League.

Should they defy those odds thanks to another late strike from bent there will be at least one Rams fan laughing all the way to the bank.
