This year’s World Cup will be the biggest EVER, according to our football traders.

We’ve been told to expect a staggering £800m to be staked across the industry by the time the trophy is won next month in Russia.

It’s already been a dramatic World Cup and a ball has barely been kicked. Spain sacked their manager on the eve of the tournament. And that’s sent the buzz around the showpiece into overdrive.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “World Cup mania is bigger than ever in the UK with plenty of patriotic punters hoping England can go a long way in what looks set to be the most bet-on football competition of all-time.”

Brazil are the current favourites at 4/1, with holders Germany out at 9/2. France and Spain are both 6/1, while England are out at 14/1.
