Norwich City v Aston Villa tips: Will Norwich be the villains tonight?

Published:

English football’s second tier gives you little room to breathe as the games come thick and fast.

Norwich and Aston Villa have large designs to reach the play-offs at worst this season and both come into this one off the back of weekend wins.

The Canaries have only lost one game since mid-August. And with Villa hoping new manager Dean Smith can guide them up the table we take a look at how the big game could unfold.

Match odds

Norwich have won each of their last three home league matches against Villa. They’re 5/4 to bag yet another win against their opponents.

However, Villa have dominated the fixture in the last ten meetings and are 11/5 to make it eight wins in 11 meetings.

Both sides have been level at half-time nine times, which is the joint highest in the league. It’s 21/20 to be stalemate by the end of the first half.

The draw at full time and Over 2.5 goals is 11/1.

Talking Tactics

Onel Hernandez has been declared fit to start for Norwich after he made his comeback from injury against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

This means boss Daniel Farke should retain the 4-2-3-1 formation that has served them so well in the last few months.

Jordan Rhodes could be in and around the starting line-up again, especially with top-scorer Teemu Pukki injured.

Villa are starting a new era under Smith and assistant coach John Terry. They will be without key man John McGinn in the middle of the park. Conor Hourihane should replace him.

Smith may keep with the 4-4-1-1 formation. Yannick Bolasie will be pressing for a start in place of Ahmed Elmohamady.

Goalscorer odds

With Pukki out, all eyes will be on Rhodes for Norwich. The former Ipswich forward is 17/10 to bag Anytime.

Timm Klose was the unlikely hero with two goals against Forest. The centre-back’s 9/1 to score tonight.

Tammy Abraham should start for Villa again. The Chelsea loanee sits at 11/2 to be first goal scorer.

Jack Grealish will be charged with creating the openings for his boyhood club. Our traders have him at 14/5 to score Anytime.
