Europa League final preview: Eintracht Frankfurt v Rangers betting tips

Rangers will compete in their first European final 14 years on Wednesday and once again they are up against German opposition.

Gers eliminated Borussia Dortmund in the knockout play-off round of the Europa League and Leipzig in the semi-finals to set up a clash with 13/10 favourites Eintracht Frankfurt, who knocked out West Ham in the last four to prevent a Battle of Britain in Seville.

The Scottish side are the underdogs once again at 11/10 to lift the trophy or 2/1 to win inside 90 minutes so let’s look at some of the main talking points to help with our Eintracht Frankfurt v Rangers betting tips.

Eintracht Frankfurt v Rangers form

Rangers’ performances at Ibrox have proved crucial to their progress throughout the Europa League, winning six of their eight matches in front of their own fans and in the last two rounds they had to overcome 1-0 deficits from the first leg before winning 3-1 in the returns against Braga and Leipzig, the latter coming courtesy of John Lundstram’s winner.

Their biggest scalp, though, came in February when they won 4-2 at Bundesliga giants Dortmund and despite trailing 2-1 in the return, skipper James Tavernier came to the rescue with the equaliser to fire Rangers into the round of 16 where a 3-0 victory in the first leg in Glasgow paved the way for a 4-2 aggregate win against Red Star Belgrade.

After the semi-final victory against Leipzig, manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst admitted the supporters had played a pivotal part in their epic run.

He said: “The interaction with the fans was amazing. I played so many games here as a player and from last November as a manager but the atmosphere was incredible. That helped a lot.”

The Rangers faithful will be in full voice again in Spain where they are 17/4 to win and concede, bearing in mind there were goals at both ends in three of the four games against Bundesliga sides.

Domestically, Rangers fell just short of a successful title defence although the width of a post denied them the chance to get to within three points of leaders Celtic in the last Old Firm derby of the season, but now they are 90 minutes away from playing in next season’s Champions League.

Frankfurt finished a point adrift of the Champions League places last season, but Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Mainz meant they finished in the bottom half of the table.

Their failure to win any of their last eight Bundesliga matches contrasts sharply with their performances in the Europa League during which they were unbeaten in all 12 group and knockout matches having sensationally eliminated Barcelona in the quarter-finals.

Ten of those matches involved goals at both ends and they are 16/5 to win and concede, while both teams to score, at least three goals and either team to win can be backed at 13/8 as one of our #GetAPrice options.

Additionally, five of their matches ended in score draws which is available at 16/5, with a goal in both halves and the final to be level after 90 minutes 5/1 in our Eintracht Frankfurt v Rangers betting tips.

A third of Frankfurt’s Europa League games ended 1-1 and that scoreline is priced at 6/1.

Eintracht Frankfurt v Rangers head to head

The teams have met just once before and if we get a fraction of the goals from their European Cup semi-final in the 1959-60 season we should be in for a cracker.

The Germans won the first leg 6-1 and the return 6-3 for a 12-4 aggregate victory, but Alfredo Di Stefano scored a hat-trick and Ferenc Puskas netted four for Real Madrid in a remarkable 7-3 victory in the final.

Eintracht Frankfurt v Rangers team news

Rangers have been boosted by the return to fitness of Kemar Roofe who has not played since helping them beat Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-final on April 17, having picked up a knee injury.

The former Leeds player returned to full training earlier this week and is set to feature against on Wednesday.

Roofe has scored 17 times this season from 17 starts and 16 substitute appearances and hit the extra-time goal that took Rangers past Braga in the quarter-finals.

With top goalscorer Alfredo Morelos out for the season with a thigh injury, Rangers have started the likes of midfielder Joe Aribo and wide attacker Fashion Sakala in the centre-forward role in recent weeks.

Rangers will be without long-term absentees Morelos, Ianis Hagi and Filip Helander but are otherwise expected to have a fully-fit squad.

Frankfurt centre-back Martin Hinteregger limped off with a hamstring injury after an ill-advised body check on Hammers striker Michail Antonio inside the first 10 minutes and will miss the final.

Evan Ndicka returned from suspension for the second leg against West Ham and is likely to be accompanied by Tuta and Almamy Toure at the back.

Goalscorer odds

Roofe is the 4/1 favourite to break the deadlock and 6/4 to score, but it remains uncertain whether he will start.

Penalty-taking right-back James Tavernier is the top scorer in the tournament with seven and looks a much better option at 9/1 to get the ball rolling or 7/2 to find the net in our Eintracht Frankfurt v Rangers betting tips.

Fashion Sakala is 6/1 and 23/10 in the two markets, while Ramsey is 13/2 and 13/5.

Rafael Borre was on target at the weekend and is the 5/1 favourite from the Frankfurt camp to draw first blood or 15/8 to score.

Daichi Kamada is the Germans’ top scorer in the Europa League with five and he is 8/1 and 3/1 in the two options, the same prices as Jens Petter Hauge.
