Aston Villa v Brentford preview and odds

Newly-promoted Brentford are yet to concede a goal in their first season in the Premier League as they head to the midlands to face Aston Villa.

The Bees have picked up four points from their first two matches and they will reach the international break still unbeaten if they can keep another clean sheet.

Villa’s 2-0 win against Newcastle last week got their season up and running and we have studied the odds to pick out some Aston Villa v Brentford betting tips.

Match Odds

Brentford have been underdogs in both of their Premier League matches so will not be worried by their price for Saturday’s match.

Villa are evens favourites to make it two wins from two at Villa Park while Brentford are 11/4, with the draw 12/5.

Villa have already lost to one of the promoted teams this season as they slipped to a 3-2 defeat at Watford on the opening weekend but they bounced back to beat Newcastle.

Brentford held Crystal Palace to a goalless draw at Selhurst Park and it was another impressive defensive display after the opening 2-0 win against Arsenal.

A third successive clean sheet is an option for Aston Villa v Brentford betting tips at 17/5 but Villa have scored two goals in both matches so far and are evens to net at least that many again.

A Villa win and over 1.5 goals bumps up their odds to 6/4 while both teams to score can be backed at 8/11.

Brentford failed to find the net at Palace but created some decent chances with Ivan Toney wasteful and Bryan Mbeumo striking the crossbar towards the end of the first half.

Talking Tactics

Both managers made wholesale changes to their teams for Tuesday night’s EFL Cup fixtures when they were up against League Two opposition but will revert back to their strongest line-ups here.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank will look for his team to engage Villa high up the pitch, as they did to such good effect against Arsenal while Frank was pleased with the performance at Palace.

“I think the press was really good, either high or middle and aggressive, so winning the ball a lot of times,” he said. “But after we won it, we didn’t have enough quality or coolness to win the big chances.

“On the ball we need to be more cool and composed. Defensively we gave only one big chance away to Gallagher and kept Zaha and Benteke quiet, so that was good.”

Some nerves can be forgiven as Brentford continue to adapt to life in the Premier League and a second successive Villa win to nil can be backed at 5/2, with 2-0 priced at 17/2.

Goalscorer Odds

Villa’s signing of Danny Ings looked to be one of the best pieces of business in the Premier League this summer and they have already started to be rewarded.

Ings has scored in both matches so far and is 6/4 to extend that run while he is the 4/1 joint-favourite in the first goalscorer betting along with Brentford striker Toney, who is the same price despite failing to get off the mark yet.

Anwar El Ghazi is 5/2 to again find the net after scoring three goals in the space of four days – including two penalties – against Newcastle and Barrow to round off our Aston Villa v Brentford betting tips.
