Brentford v Chelsea preview and odds

Premier League leaders Chelsea return from the international break with a televised west London derby at Brentford who have made a superb start to the season.

The Bees, 9/4 to finish in the top half, drew 3-3 at home to Liverpool in their previous home game which they followed with a last-gasp 2-1 win at West Ham.

The Blues are the 3/5 favourites to beat the Premier League newcomers, but let’s see what else is on offer in our Brentford v Chelsea betting tips.

Match Odds

Chelsea’s three London derbies this season have been unqualified successes, beating Crystal Palace, Tottenham and Arsenal without conceding, so we go 7/5 on another win to nil or it’s 23/20 on a victory for the visitors and under 3.5 goals which was the case in the aforementioned games.

However, Brentford have lost just once this season, beating Arsenal in the first match of the season, although their most impressive performance came against the Reds three weeks ago.

Thomas Frank’s side are 11/4 to draw once again or it’s 21/5 on a share of the spoils with goals at both ends, but the odds rocket to 16/1 for the match to end 2-2, 3-3 or higher in our Brentford v Chelsea betting tips.

Brentford have also scored the first goal in five of their seven matches, including the games against Arsenal and Liverpool, and are 23/10 to break the deadlock and 18/5 to do so in the first half.

Chelsea, though, head to the Community Stadium buoyed by a 3-1 victory against Southampton and Kai Havertz and Timo Werner return to London having led Germany to the World Cup finals with three of the four goals in a 4-0 win in North Macedonia.

Brentford have scored in five of their seven games and so we go 14/5 on Thomas Tuchel’s side winning and conceding, while Chelsea to win or draw, both teams to score in the second half and over 2.5 goals in the match is 4/1.

Talking Tactics

Frank will stick with his tried and trusted 3-5-2 formation against the Blues in which Ivan Toney and Bryan Mbeumo work tirelessly up front.

Former Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer missed the win at West Ham and Vitaly Janelt was injured in the warm-up, while fellow midfielder Shandon Baptiste was forced off in the first half, so it remains to be seen whether they will be fit for Saturday.

Chelsea have a few injury concerns, namely Romelu Lukaku, who missed Belgium’s third-placed play-off against Italy with a muscle problem, and Antonio Rudiger’s back is causing concern having missed Germany’s win in North Macedonia.

However, midfielder N’Golo Kante is back in training after missing France’s Nations League triumph in self-isolation following a positive Covid test.

Goalscorer Odds

Despite Lukaku’s injury, the former Manchester United and Everton striker is 5/2 to break the deadlock and 10/11 to score.

Havertz and Werner looked sharp on Monday night and they are both 5/1 to grab the game’s opening goal or 21/10 and 2/1 respectively to get on the scoresheet in our Brentford v Chelsea betting tips.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek played almost the whole game against Southampton and has not been troubled by the international calendar, so he can be backed at 16/5 to score, the same odds as Jorginho.

Toney and Mbeumo are 6/1 and 9/1 to draw first blood or 12/5 and 7/2 to score, while super-sub Yoane Wissa is 7/2 to find the net from off the bench for the third successive game.

Christian Norgaard netted in Denmark’s 4-0 win against Moldova and is 18/1 to get on the scoresheet against the leaders.
