Europa Conference League: Hibs v Aston Villa betting tips

Aston Villa and Hibs fight it out for place in the Europa Conference League group stage in Wednesday’s first leg of the Battle of Britain.

Villa qualified for the play-off round by finishing seventh in last season’s Premier League table, but Hibs have had to come through two qualifiers to reach this stage in what has been an underwhelming start to the season.

The Scottish Premiership side are 9/1 to win at Easter Road as we look at some of the markets and select a few Hibs v Aston Villa betting tips.

Visitors hot favourites for all-British battle

Villa bounced back from a 5-1 drubbing by Newcastle on the opening weekend with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Everton on Sunday which came without injured skipper Tyrone Ings and Emi Buendia.

Philippe Coutinho is also out for three weeks after picking up a hamstring injury from off the bench, but Villa start as overwhelming 1/4 favourites to bring back a first-leg advantage from Scotland.

Manager Unai Emery described Villa’s performance in the opening stages of Sunday’s match as “brilliant” and we expect another fast start in Edinburgh.

John McGinn and a Douglas Luiz penalty gave the West Midlanders a 2-0 lead inside the first half an hour and we expect them to be ahead after 30 minutes as the first of our Hibs v Aston Villa betting tips at 13/10.

Lee Johnson’s side have made a woeful start to the campaign, losing both of their opening games to St Mirren and Motherwell by one-goal margins.

They lost the opening leg of their second-round qualifier to Andorran minnows Atletic Club d’Escaldes, so they certainly look vulnerable against a team packed with quality.

Hibs beat Lucerne 5-3 on aggregate in their last qualifier and have scored and conceded in each of their seven matches in all competitions this season, including a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Raith in Sunday’s League Cup last-16 tie when Johnson made six changes, but they have not faced an elite team like Villa and could struggle to break them down.

With that in mind, the visitors to win by a three-goal margin at 17/4 is the next of our Hibs v Aston Villa betting tips.

Emery has won the Europa League on four occasions, three times with Sevilla and once with Villarreal, and he is likely to name a strong team in a bid to add another European trophy to his glittering CV.

Moussa Diaby also looks an interesting prospect to outcore the opposition at 5/2 as the last of our Hibs v Aston Villa betting tips.

The France midfielder has started the season like a house on fire, scoring Villa’s only goal at St James’ Park and he had three shots on target against the Toffees, one of which was turned on to a post by keeper Jordan Pickford.
